Spending more than one day out camping means making sure you have enough fuel for all that late night cooking. This can really add to your kit weight but when there’s no option to get a ‘real’ fire on the go, it can cause some logistical problems for the person who likes to wander around for days at a time.

Having even a basic way of cooking that can use locally found fuel instead of the packaged type you have to lug around, not only makes life easy but makes sense from a survival point of view.

Ohuhu Portable Wood Burning Camping Stove

A flat wide base and a sawtooth 3 arm cooking system gives a nice touch of stability when cooking and allows you to use wider pots and pans. The lack of a feeding slot in this stove is by design in an attempt to create the sort of air flow that generates enough heat to increase heat output and shorten cooking time.

Limitations?

The small size that makes these wood camp stoves ideal for the long distance camper also has drawbacks when being used. Unlike portable gas stoves that pack a punch because they deliver pressurized directed heat, wood burning stoves only have their design and the basic fact that heat always rises to cook whatever you choose to put on top of it.

That doesn’t mean they’re not effective, just don’t expect to boil several liters of water in a jiffy. Just like any small camp stove, keep the quantity of food stuff small and things will move along much quicker.

With the low price of these stoves compared to the initial price and ongoing fuel costs of a typical gas burner, its feasible to have two of these in your kit without breaking the bank.

Suffering from a bit of wet weather isn’t a problem either as you can always use one of the many cheap camping solid fuel options available for lightweight campers.
