One of the most space hungry items in our camping or hiking kit is everyday drinking water which can seriously eat into the available room in a backpack especially if there is no natural supply on the route or at the campsite. When using traditional rigid plastic containers the amount of room their take up is fixed no matter how much water is left and we are left lugging around bulky empty plastic bottles.

By changing to flexible water bottles you have a lot more control over how they integrate into your outdoor equipment. Not only can you force a flexible bottle into a better shape for carrying in a backpack but they can be rolled up to do away with the dead space that rigid plastic will take up even when they are completely empty.

Most soft bottles on the market come with a range of different nozzles (some as extras) that reduce the possibility of spillage when drinking. Getting used to using a soft water bottle is easy once you understand that they cannot be griped to tight when taking a sip without the fluid being push out the top. This can be a problem while wearing thick winter gloves but is a very small learning curve to enjoy all the space saving benefits they bring.

Much better at surviving any impact damage than large plastic bottles along with a reduced freezing problem when they are rolled up tight removing all the air flexible water bottles will make carrying large amounts of water easier whatever distance you cover.
